Sydney Sweeney Faces Boycott Calls After Controversial Ad

Sydney Sweeney is back on social media after being quiet for a month. She shared some behind-the-scenes pictures from her new movie Americana, which she said she filmed with friends.

She posted this just when people were still upset about that American Eagle advertisement, and there were a lot of arguments happening online. In the ad, she says, “My jeans are blue,” while a voiceover mentions, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

Critics claimed that the play on words between jeans and genes suggested genetic superiority. Others felt the ad objectified her and compared it to the famous Brooke Shields Calvin Klein ad from the 1980s.

Many comments came in under her movie post. Some were really mean, like “Perfect, won’t be watching it.” But others tried to support her, saying things like “Do your thing, Sydney! Don’t let those haters get to you!”

American Eagle issued a statement saying there was no racial meaning behind the ad, insisting that the campaign “is and always was about the jeans.” They emphasized that great jeans look good on everyone.

Despite all the drama, she continued to promote the movie. Americana is about people involved in violence over a stolen Native American artifact known as a ghost shirt.

Some critics criticized it, saying it was slow and a bit boring. However, others enjoyed it, saying the writing was good and the cast was strong. Americana will be in theaters on August 15.
