Fans are heartbroken as acclaimed Spanish actress Verónica Echegui has died at just 42 years old. The star passed away in Madrid on Sunday after a private fight with cancer, according to local reports.
Echegui enjoyed an impressive 18-year career, appearing in over 30 films and shows. Her breakout came in I Am Juani (2006), which made her a household name in Spain. She later starred in My Prisoner’s Yard and worked with Hollywood icons Sigourney Weaver and Bruce Willis in The Cold Light of Day (2013)

Her final role was in Apple TV+’s Love You To Death, released earlier this year. Reflecting on the story’s themes, she said: “The series asks many questions about death and life, because it’s impossible to talk about one without the other.”
Tributes poured in across Spain. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez praised her “immense talent and humility.” Actor Antonio Banderas added: “Today, Spanish cinema is in mourning.”
Her loss leaves a deep mark on cinema and in the hearts of fans worldwide.
